Hi I’m Ron

I’m a father, architect and Rotarian, living and working out of 2 buildings clustered around a courtyard behind the Ellerslie Racecourse off Ladies Mile in Auckland, New Zealand.

I have two sons, Mika and Joss in their twenties, and two daughters (Ruby 14 and Noon 11 years old) with my wife, Sharon.  That’s at least 2 reasons to keep working for another 10 years.

Since graduating Bachelor of Architecture from Auckland University with Honours I have practiced architecture. This adds up to around 33 years of architectural experience in New Zealand, Fiji and the Pacific.  I am the  Principal of Murray Cockburn Partnership Auckland or MCP Auckland.

Some twenty five years ago I joined Suva North Rotary when I returned to practise architecture in my birth country Fiji. I became a member of the Rotary Club of Newmarket in 2000. Coming from a family of Rotarians you could say that he I been in the Rotary family my whole life.

I was President of the Rotary Club of Newmarket 2006/07 and  was Assistant Governor for District 9920, responsible for 5 clubs: Auckland City Sunrise, Auckland, Auckland East, Auckland Downtown and Harbourside, and DG’s rep on 4 district committees:  Fellowship, PR & Membership, ICT and The Rotary Foundation. Sitting on the Multi District PR committee has provided a national perspective of Rotary in action within New Zealand.

Alongside my Rotary board positions, I have been fortunate to have contributed as Chair of the Auckland Architectural Association, member of the St Michaels School Board of Trustees, member of the Fiji Forestry Board and Chair of the Fiji Arts Council.

I would describe myself as a social entrepreneur and my leisure interests reflect this. I love wine, fine food and company, travel, collecting art and furniture as well fitness and have recently graduated from road running to walking.

Sharon supports me in all my endeavours, enjoys her family, keeping in touch with friends and making new ones, with more active pursuits being yoga, walking, music, dancing. A past convenor for Friends of Starship Central she is particularly interested, experienced and remains active in the charitable fundraising space.

Sharon and I are active parishioners of St Michael’s Catholic Church in Remuera.

Both Sharon and I are looking forward very much to serving District 9920 and getting to know the individuals within this Rotary Family.
